Phosphorous acid is colorless crystalline, hygroscopic, deliquescent, cautic. Relative desity: 1.651(@21.2 °C), melting porint: 73.6°C, boiling point: 200°C (decomposed).

Phosphorous acid is soluble in water and alcohol, slowly oxidized to orthophosphoric acid in air and decomposes to orthophosphoric acid and phosphine if heated to 180°C.

Phosphorous acid can be used as the raw material of phosphate and phosphonate, reductive agent, nylon whitening agent and anti-oxidant, stablizer for plastics, organo-phosphorus pesticide intermediate and chemical reagent.

Phosphorous acid can also be used as fertilizer additive in agroculture industry.
